Code of conduct & discipline

The Intellectual Property Regulation Board (IPReg) has drawn up a code of conduct which applies to all registered trade mark attorneys (and patent attorneys). This can be found at http://www.ipreg.org.uk/information/code_conduct.php

Even in the most professional and competent of organisations things can go wrong and all firms of trade mark attorneys must have in place internal complaints procedures to handle any complaints from their clients. If this has been used but there remains dissatisfaction then there are two routes open to a client.

Any allegation of a breach of the code of conduct by a trade mark attorney should be directed to IPReg [www.ipreg.org.uk] who will consider and investigate if appropriate. The procedure that they will adopt can be found at http://www.ipreg.org.uk/information/complaints_procedure.php

If your unresolved complaint is one which relates to the service provided by a trade mark attorney, the Office for Legal Complaints (OLC) is able to assist. Details about the OLC and further information about the procedure to follow can be found at - http://www.legalombudsman.org.uk/
