Speaker: Jonathan Moss, Hogarth Chambers
Jonathan will discuss the recent developments in the law of designs (both registered and unregistered) focusing on the Trunki saga and how Brexit (hard or soft) may impact design protection in future.
Jonathan is dual qualified. He was called to the UK bar in 2009 but before then he passed the New York bar exam and worked as a US Attorney.
He has a wide practice that stretches across all the IP rights, but for this presentation his designs experience is the focus.
In 2012 Jonathan was awarded the national AIPPI best young contributor prize for his work in relation to the harmonisation of design laws. In 2014 he was appointed to the Treasury C Panel to advise the government on Intellectual Property and Commercial matters.
In 2014 he acted on the Whitby Specialist Vehicles v Yorkshire Specialist Vehicles case which was heard by Arnold J in the High Court and dealt with Community registered and UK unregistered designs, as well as issues of malicious falsehood and threats. Last, but far from least, he acted alongside Michael Hicks for the claimant (Magmatic Limited) on the Trunki children’s suitcase designs case both in the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.
