Patrick Cantrill of Womble Bond Dickinson will give an introduction and update to recent UK and ECJ decisions on the protection of databases.
He says “we live in a digital age where the new corporate giants are the controllers and holders of vast amounts of data which impact every aspect of society and the global economy”.
Shortly before Christmas the CJEU ruled that Uber had to be treated as a taxi service as well as an information services provider. However, it’s global value as of today of $70 billion does not come from being a taxi service but, rather, the owner of the largest database of information relating to personal transportation in the world.
