  • We are excited to launch our next seminar specifically designed for CITMA Paralegals and colleagues.

    Join a host of specialist speakers for the afternoon as we focus on developing your knowledge and increasing your efficiency in all aspects of IP post-registration. Our sessions will also provide you with practical tips and advice on proof of use, registration, renewals and maintenance.

    There will be plenty of opportunity for you to network with our speakers, other paralegals, administrators and formalities staff at our post-event drinks reception. An excellent way to conclude a productive afternoon.

    • 1pm - Registration
    • 2pm - Proof of use - UK and EU, Julius Stobbs, Stobbs IP

      Julius will provide a review of the concept, practice and intricacies of proof of use at the UK and EUIPO. Attendees will learn about the relevant use provisions, dates, situations when proof may be required, what is required in practice at each office and the issue of “use in the Community”.  
    • 3.10pm - Renewal and restoration, Kane Ridley, Keltie LLP

      Kane will provide an overview of the UK trade mark renewal and restoration process. Looking at ways renewal can be paid, the fees involved, common errors and how to avoid them. He will advise on good practice when completing renewal payments at the UKIPO. In addition Kane will talk about the UK restoration process, when it is applicable and how best to complete a request to restore a trade mark. Attendees will learn about the UK renewal and restoration workflows as well as gain valuable insight into how best to manage renewal portfolios.

    • 4.30pm - Unusual maintenance around the world, Daniel Smart, Colman + Smart


      Dan will take you on a whistle-stop tour of some of the more unusual maintenance requirements for trade mark registrations around the world. Understand when renewing a trade mark registration may not be simple and learn about the idiosyncrasies of trade mark maintenance so you can ensure the registrations managed by your organisation can be maintained safely and on time.

    • 5.15pm - US Sections 8 (and 9 and 15) and 71 - practice, audit program, fake specimens
      Daniel Smart, Colman + Smart and Kane Ridley, Keltie LLP 

      Use of a trade mark is an important part of US trade mark practice. Focussing on post-registration and maintaining trade marks in force, Dan and Kane will look at the key parts of the Lanham Act, Sections 8 and 71, and how to effectively submit use that will be acceptable to the USPTO. Attendees will also learn about the efforts of the USPTO on clamping down on false use claims and fake specimens of use.
