Do workplace dress codes – whether explicit or implicit – undermine inclusivity? Are there “double standards” for men and women? Do accepted practices on clothing, jewellery or hair styles discriminate against some people because of their faith, their culture or their ethnicity? Do gender-specific dress codes make life difficult for people who are undergoing, or want to undergo, a gender transition? Does “dress down Friday” make some of your colleagues feel uncomfortable?

Are formal dress codes even legal?

This webinar is a nod to the 2019 Mental Health Awareness Week theme, “body image”. We want to look at how workplace dress codes, and the expectations that accompany them, affect inclusion and therefore diversity in the IP professions. Our speakers will explore the extent to which those expectations both arise from and sustain our biases, often in subtle ways and often unnoticed.
