EUIPO no longer accepts fax applications02 January 2018
European Union trade mark applications will no longer be accepted by fax the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) has reminded its users.
The new decision came into effect on New Year’s Day 2018. However fax can still be used as a backup system if a technical issue prevents e-filing.
There are two ways to file an application for an EU trade mark:
- e-filing: online applications
- by regular post or by courier
Since October 2017 applications for trade marks where the representation has a colour component, including figurative marks, have not been able to be filed by fax.
The new system is in accordance with Decision EX-17-4 of the Executive Director of EUIPO.
