UK IPO confirms temporary fees period will end

3rd Mar 2021

Temporary measures that provided zero or nominal fees for extensions and late payments to trade marks and other IP rights will end on 31st March 2021.

Intellectual property office trade marks

The measures, which have been in place since 30th July 2020, were introduced to help rights holders during the Coronavirus pandemic.

For trade marks it reduced requests for a time extension to zero (normally £100), late payments of a renewal fee to £1 (normally £50), and a request to restore a trade mark to zero (normally £100).

Similar measures have been in place for designs and patents too.

The UK IPO has said that it will “continue to take whatever measures it can to support rights applicants, rights holders and representatives who have been affected by the Coronavirus pandemic.”
