Call for views on judicial salary structure

16th Jan 2026

The Senior Salaries Review Body (SSRB) has launched a call for evidence as part of its major review of the judicial salary structure across the UK.

The review, commissioned by the Lord Chancellor in May 2025, will examine how judicial pay is structured and how it affects key issues such as recruitment shortfalls, the attractiveness of judicial offices, and organisation and leadership.

As part of the call for evidence, the SSRB has published an online questionnaire inviting the public to share their insights and views on the system.

The questionnaire has been designed to be answered by three types of respondents; organisations, individuals who are judges, and individuals who are not judges. The SSRB is also keen to hear from a broad range of stakeholders with experience of, or interest in, the justice system, including practising lawyers.

While the major review judicial sub-committee has already been compiling evidence through engaging with stakeholders and visiting courts and tribunals across the UK, the SSRB views the questionnaire as a crucial step in the consultation process.

The deadline for submissions is 30th January 2026. Ensure your voice is heard in this important review and complete the SSRB questionnaire here.
