24th Apr 2023

IPReg is introducing new regulatory arrangements, which will come into force on 1st July 2023.

business people

IPReg's new regulations concern their code of conduct and associated rules.

CITMA and CIPA will be working together with IPReg to offer you a series of webinars to illuminate the new regulations and provide clarification on any questions.

Dates for these sessions will be available and publicised in due course.

The updated regulatory arrangements cover the following areas:

  • The core regulatory framework, setting out the overarching principles, code of conduct and the authorisation, admission and investigation and disciplinary requirements
  • Guidance
  • The standard operating procedures which set out procedural matters in relation to authorisation and admission to the register, the disciplinary process and applying for a waiver of IPReg's rules
  • The glossary of terms

The core regulatory framework and standard operating procedures require Legal Services Board authorisation for any amendments.

Therefore, IPReg originally applied to the LSB to update its regulations in November last year, and received authorisation in February 2023.

The following rules and regulations are not changing and will remain in force after 1st July:

  • Rules for the Examination and Admission of Individuals
  • Rights to Conduct Litigation and Advocacy
  • Compensation Arrangements Rules
