Feryal Clark appointed Minister with responsibility for IP
Feryal Clark, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for AI and Digital Government, will cover a broad portfolio, including intellectual property.
Clark, who is a Labour MP for Enfield North, steps into the role following Labour’s recent general election success.
Responsibility for IP falls under the remit of the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for AI and Digital Government at the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, as was the case under the previous government.
However, Clark’s role is substantially wider than that of her predecessor, Jonathan Berry (Viscount Camrose). It now also includes responsibility for AI transparency and ethics, digital public services, and cybersecurity.
Feryal Clark was first elected as an MP in 2019, and since then has served as Shadow Minister for Primary Care and Patient Safety, Shadow Minister for Health, and Shadow Minister for Crime Reduction.
Adam Williams, Chief Executive and Comptroller-General of the Intellectual Property Office, said:
“I am delighted to welcome Feryal Clark as the new minister responsible for IP.
“The new government has a clear mission – economic growth. Innovation and creativity are crucial to achieving this goal, and intellectual property is a powerful enabler across many sectors of the UK economy.”
