IPReg launches education review newsletter
The Intellectual Property Regulation Board (IPReg) has launched a dedicated newsletter to keep the profession informed on its education review.
IPReg is progressing a review of qualification requirements for future trade mark and patent attorneys. The process will shape what the next generation of professionals will need to know and be able to do, along with how they should be supported and enabled to develop and demonstrate these required professional capabilities.
Effective stakeholder communication and engagement is essential to the review. As it gets underway, IPReg plans to increase its stakeholder communications and engagement activity, including the introduction of a dedicated education review newsletter. This will provide regular updates and highlight opportunities to get involved.
The review will look at the professional knowledge and skills expected of new attorneys in each profession, informed by changes in practice (e.g. relating to professional ethics, AI and Lawtech).
It will also explore best practice in professional education and assessment, and equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging issues. Key stages will include an initial call for evidence (due to open early in 2026) and a future public consultation on proposed review outputs and outcomes.
