The Legal Service Board is the oversight regulator of legal services in England and Wales. This includes oversight of the Intellectual Property Regulation Board (IPReg).

Discussing his approaching departure, Matthew said: “I have been tremendously privileged to have worked with so many brilliant people inside and outside the LSB, and to have been entrusted with the mission of ensuring regulation works better in the interests of the public and people who need legal services.”

To ensure smooth running continues, an interim leadership arrangement will take the helm while recruitment for a new permanent Chief Executive is completed.

Matthew took up his current role in 2019. Before joining the Legal Services Board, he was Executive Director, Strategy at the General Dental Council.

Alan Kershaw, Chair of the Legal Services Board, said: “On behalf of the Board and colleagues at the LSB, I want to thank Matthew for his exceptional leadership, focus and commitment.

“Since joining in 2019, Matthew has played a key role in developing our vision, strategy and reputation as an independent consumer-focused regulator.”

He is leaving the post to move on to the Chartered Insurance Institute, where he will be Chief Executive.
