Saudi Arabia joins Madrid System
Saudi Arabia has joined the Madrid System for filing international trade mark applications.
From 8th October 2026 you will be able to designate Saudi Arabia on international trade mark applications after it became the 117th member of the Madrid System.
The accession of Saudi Arabia means that five of the six members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) are now part of the Madrid System – these include Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Kuwait is the only GCC country not part of the system.
Saudi Arabia deposited the instrument of accession to the Madrid Protocol on 8th July 2026.
The Madrid System offers a convenient and cost-effective solution for registering and managing trade marks globally, in all affiliated countries simultaneously. Once effective in Saudi Arabia it will allow the filing of trade mark applications across 133 countries.
It includes geographical areas such as the European Union, as well as individual countries.
