How to apply for assistance

Applying for assistance is simple, please just get in touch. All applications from members of CITMA, their families and CITMA staff are considered.

Benevolent Fund

We provide monetary support in the form of grants or loans to meet your particular need. We recommend that in the first instance you look for help from other sources.

Applying for assistance is simple, please just get in touch. All applications from members of CITMA, their families and CITMA staff are considered.

We do not require a set format. However we suggest that you address the following:

  1. Your name. If you are not a member of CITMA please make clear your connection.
  2. Brief details of the situation which might be resolved or alleviated as a result of financial assistance.
  3. Details of what, if anything, the member’s firm is doing to help. Please note that we may wish to talk confidentially to the firm. Please state if that would not be in the interest of the claim.
  4. Details of what assistance - both financial and practical - is being provided by others. We may seek evidence of this.
  5. The amount of financial assistance you are looking for.
  6. When you need the money.

Each request will be considered on a confidential basis throughout the process.

Please send your request for financial support in writing, and marked confidential, to either:

CITMA Benevolent Fund,
Thanet House,
231-232 Strand,
London, WC2R 1DA

Or directly to Mike Knight, Chair of the Fund: [email protected]

What we do with your request

One of our trustees will, in the first instance, consider whether you are eligible to receive financial support from the Fund. If we consider you not to be eligible, we will let you know immediately.

The trustee assigned to your case will consider your circumstances. They will, if appropriate or applicable, contact the relevant firm on a confidential basis to determine their view of the case and what assistance is being provided.

If we consider that the request has merit, all details of the circumstances will be considered. Evidence of current help may be sought at this stage.

The lead trustee will make a recommendation to the board of trustees, having taken the amount requested and when it is needed into account.

We will make a decision quickly, and will let you know the outcome.

To have this decision reviewed, at any stage, you can ask the Chair to reconsider. This decision will be final.
