Jamaica joins the Madrid System
As of 27th March 2022, Jamaica is available through the Madrid System.

It joins the other 109 existing member jurisdictions, including the following other Caribbean territories:
- Antigua and Barbuda
- Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba (which you may see referred to as the Caribbean Netherlands or the BES Islands)
- Cuba
- Curaçao
- Sint Maarten
- Trinidad and Tobago
Jamaica’s accession follows its passing of the Trade Marks (Amendment) Act in 2021, which comes into force on the 27th of March 2022.
The Trade Marks Act also suggests that international applications will be advertised once received, as opposed to following examination.
Jamaica deposited its instrument of accession on December 27th 2021.
This was accompanied by the declaration referred to in Article 5 of the Madrid Protocol, extending the time limit of one year to notify a provisional refusal of protection to 18 months.
