Walking in support of legal aid
We are delighted to join this year’s London Legal Walk, raising money for the London Legal Support Trust.
On 18th October, a team of volunteers from CITMA will join more than 400 other teams and the Lord Chief Justice for a 10km walk through London’s historic streets.
The work done by the London Legal Support Trust is crucial. In the UK, two thirds of people don’t know how to access legal support, and more than 14 million people living in poverty would be unable to pay for it.
Charities like this one has become even more vital in recent years: between 2005 and 2018, 56% of all legal aid providers in the UK ceased to exist. In the wake of Covid-19, half of the surviving advice agencies face the threat of closure.
Donate hereAdditionally, a combination of cuts to legal aid and local government spending are estimated to have removed approximately £100m per year from the advice economy in English and Wales.
London Legal Support Trust funds legal support centres and pro bono agencies across London and the South East. These are a crucial resource for people facing debt problems, homelessness and discrimination of various forms.
